Background
Youth For Change Bangladesh Foundation (YFCBD) is a youth-led, nationwide, non-profit and non-governmental organization working to empower children, adolescents, and young people in Bangladesh, with a strong focus on women and marginalized groups. Established in 2018, YFCBD emerged from a global youth movement to end child marriage and harmful practices and has since evolved into an independent organization registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC) under Registration No. S-13770, and the NGO Affairs Bureau (NGOAB) under Registration No. 3444. YFC-BD works across gender equality, SRHR, climate action, disaster risk reduction, youth leadership, digital safety, and policy advocacy implementing national and district-level initiatives and convening youth coalitions to strengthen youth voice in policy dialogue.
Building on this commitment to rights, safety, and youth participation, YFCBD is increasingly focusing on the growing risks that young people, especially girls and marginalized groups face in online spaces. Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a critical concern in Bangladesh and is increasingly taking new forms through digital platforms. As internet and social media use expands, online harassment, cyberstalking, non-consensual sharing of photos/videos, and digital threats or blackmail are becoming more frequent, yet are often under-discussed and inadequately addressed. These harms disproportionately affect teenage girls, young women, gender-diverse people, and youth activists, pushing many to withdraw from online spaces, limit their participation, and feel unsafe showing that cyber abuse is not only a “tech issue” but a form of GBV that requires a stronger, more coordinated response. Within this context, YFC-BD is implementing the Empower Change: Creating Safe Spaces & Advancing Gender Equality project, using youth-led, community-based, and survivor-centered approaches to strengthen GBV prevention and response. Under the 16 Days of Activism, YFCBD’s campaign “Amar Kontho, Amar Odhikar (My Voice, My Rights)” will elevate survivor-safe evidence and amplify public advocacy to promote safer, gender-responsive digital spaces. This includes documenting cyber-GBV case stories with confidentiality for evidence and action and producing short advocacy videos on cyber safety and online GBV featuring policymakers, cyber officials, and activists to strengthen public recognition and accountability. To support this advocacy goal, YFC-BD will engage an individual video professional and/or a production house to produce 12 videos on Cyber-GBV case stories for evidence and action and 3 advocacy videos on cyber safety and online GBV, ensuring survivor-sensitive storytelling, high production quality, and content optimized for public engagement and policy influence.
